What does a psychologist do?

A psychologist studies how we think, feel, and behave. They can provide therapy, assessments, and consultations, helping individuals and groups understand, overcome, or manage mental health issues, emotional challenges, or behavioral problems.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

A psychologist primarily offers therapy and counseling, while a psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication and may offer therapy as well. Psychologists focus on behavioral interventions, whereas psychiatrists address mental disorders from a medical standpoint.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

I welcome self-referrals and referrals from other professionals. If I feel that, the client’s concern would be better dealt with by another professional, I am willing to arrange an appropriate referral.

How long does each therapy session last?

Typically, sessions last between 50 to 60 minutes. However, the duration can vary based on the treatment plan and specific needs of the client.

How often should I see a psychologist?

The frequency of visits varies for each individual and their specific needs. Some people benefit from weekly sessions, while others might come bi-weekly or monthly. This can be discussed and agreed upon during initial sessions.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes, everything you share is confidential, with a few exceptions for safety reasons (e.g., threat of harm to oneself or others, suspected child abuse). We adhere to strict privacy laws and professional ethical guidelines.

How do I know if I need therapy?

If you feel persistently unhappy, or anxious, or if you’re struggling with day-to-day activities due to emotional or psychological reasons, it might be beneficial to consult with a psychologist. Therapy can help provide tools and insights to manage and overcome challenges.

How long will I need therapy?

The duration of therapy varies widely depending on individual needs, issues, and goals. Some people attend a few sessions to address specific concerns, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy.

How much does a session cost?

The cost per session varies based on various factors. We recommend contacting our front office. Remember, many insurance plans may cover psychological services either partially or in full. You can email me at  or call at 416 438 3800

Can I engage in online or teletherapy sessions?

Yes, I do offer virtual/online or teletherapy sessions to clients who may not be able to attend in person. Please inquire about the availability and requirements.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

Our psychologists are trained in various therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, EMDR, clinical hypnosis and more. The approach used will be tailored to your specific needs and goals.

What is a cancellation or rescheduling policy?

Clients have to provide at least 48 hours’ notice in advance if they want to cancel or reschedule. Except under unforeseen/ serious circumstances, you will be charged the full session fees for the appointment that gets missed or canceled with less than 48 hours’ notice.

How can I pay for the services?

The clients usually pay before the session starts, and we issue them a receipt that they can submit to their insurance for reimbursement. We accept cash, cards, and e-transfers (prior to the sessions).

However, the credit card on file is recommended to avoid no compensation for missed/no-show appointments. We use Jane/Stripe online payment processing to securely store your credit card information.

Is there a direct billing?

Currently, I don’t have a direct billing option.

Are psychological services covered under OHIP?

Although OHIP does not cover the cost of psychological services, most private insurance plans cover services provided by psychologists. Please check with your employer to determine how much coverage your insurance plan provides. Persons with a family member (spouse or parent) who is working may be eligible for coverage through the family member’s benefit plan. Although I have established a standard fee, I also operate on a sliding fee scale. When a new client does not possess the means to pay the standard fee, I am open to arranging a lower fee in collaboration with the client.

Is the first session complimentary?

There are no complimentary services. Clients have to pay from the very first session.
