Dr. Arpita Biswas practices evidence-based psychotherapies, which are guided by the most current research relevant to the practice of clinical psychology. She is extensively trained in an array of psychotherapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, EMDR, and Mindfulness-based Interventions.

She has a number of published research articles in scientific journals in the area of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. She tailors her therapeutic approaches according to the needs of the clients. In conducting psychotherapy, she remains sensitive to the cultural and social background of the client.

Dr. Biswas employs tools such as homework and practices to be completed in between the sessions, which serve to reinforce the skills learned during sessions. She often incorporates mindfulness meditation practices to help her clients obtain a more profound sense of acceptance, meaning and tranquility.

Dr. Biswas also conducts psychological and psychovocational assessments for motor vehicle accidents (MVA), Workman’s Compensation and Insurance Board (WSIB), immigration, and for other medical insurance cases. For these assessments, she accepts referrals directly from clients, lawyers, occupational therapists, disability case managers or insurance companies to assess psychological functioning and to determine the nature and extent of the disability, provide a diagnosis and prognosis, and provide a suggested treatment plan.

Before starting her full-time private practice in 2008, Dr. Biswas worked for several years as a staff psychologist at the Health and Wellness Department of the University of Toronto, Scarborough. Additionally, she holds a Faculty position at Centre for Mindfulness Studies, which is the leading professional development and service delivery organization for mindfulness-based interventions in Canada. She also holds a leadership position and is the Executive Board Member and Educational Committee Member of the Canadian Society of Clinical Hypnosis – Ontario Division, which engages in training, research, and education of clinical hypnosis to registered healthcare professionals in Canada.

In her practice, she continues to teach and supervise other psychotherapists and psychologists under supervised practice. In her spare time, Dr. Biswas enjoys spending time with family and friends, loves travelling and engages in meditation for self-exploration and development.
